21st Ibiza Round the Island MTB Scott By Shimano 2022

21st Ibiza Round the Island

After a few years celebrating the race on other dates, Ibiza Round the Island MTB Scott by Shimano shined brighter than ever during last Easter. The 190km that comprised the race were divided in three tough stages that run across the whole island, making this race one of the most iconic in our country.

With the unrivalled backdrop of Ibiza Dalt Vila ancient walls, over thousand cyclists departed from Ibiza harbor. Among the participants were Marc Coma, Carlos Checa, Mónica Plaza, Gerard Farrés, Mathias Lauda, Armand Monleon, Joan Font, Marc Solá, Joel Bosqued, Óscar Pereiro and Purit Rodríguez.

During this year’s edition one of the greatest novelties and challenges was the timed sections, called Shimano Special Sector. Each stage had one of these sections, although only the three fastest teams could obtain a time bonification in the first stage.

First stage was one of the most challenging ones with 63km and a gradient of 1600m between Ibiza Marina (from the Monument in honor to the Corsairs) to Passeig de Ses Fonts in Sant Antoni de Portmany. The second stage started in Santa Eularia des Riu and finished also in Sant Antoni, with 74km route that went through iconic spots such as Benirras and Santa Agnés. The last stage was a round tour that departed and ended in Sant Antoni de Portmany, 55km to finish a race that has been blessed by beautiful weather, great competitiveness, and the fabulous support of a very dedicated crowd.

The winners of the male category were Andrea Righettini and Stefano dal Grande from the Olympia Factory Team, a duo that dominated each one of the stages. In the feminine category the winners were Vera Looser and Irina Luetzelschwab from the Bulls Team. Both teams did not only had to overcome a tough journey but also had to beat the participants’ high performance and their incredible speed.

Due to the great success of the Ibiza Tour MTB Scott by Shimano, dates for next edition 2023 have already been confirmed: 7th, 8th and 9th of April, also coinciding with Easter Week when the island will have the opportunity to host this wonderful Mountain Bike race.
